Honey Bee, by Heather Shere, is a super sweet contemporary romance. Bo is the cocky, handsome high school athletic director afraid of commitment or forming close relationships of any kind. Sophia is the beautiful new girl in town hoping to settle down and create a new life for herself and her dog Triton after the passing of her mother. This book is a case of opposites having instant attraction – as sparks literally fly when Bo and Sophia meet.
Heather Shere did a fabulous job of creating characters that were easy to identify with and who felt like real people. Bo has a past he really can’t seem to overcome when it comes to relationships of both the female and the furry kind. He has pushed away his sister and only ever has one night stands. Sophia is naturally friendly and affectionate. She easily sees Bo’s issues with commitment and tries not to press him for more than he is ready to give . . . but both seem to develop feelings for one another.
While things seem to be going well, Bo just can’t seem to get past his feelings about Sophia’s big furry baby, Triton . . . who simply adores Bo and attempts to get attention from Bo whenever he is present. When Triton accidentally wreaks havoc at an event, Bo lashes out, hurting Sophia in a way she can’t move past . . . not that Bo is even asking for forgiveness. As both try to move on with their lives, fate and Triton, bring Sophia and Bo together again . . . will Bo be able to let his past go to see the future he could have with Sophia?
I loved the characters Heather Shere created. I could easily see where Bo’s fear of commitment came from and understand why he acted the way he did. I adored quirky Sophia and her love for all things natural, especially her bees and her extreme love for Triton . . .the only family she really has left. Ancillary characters, including Judy and Dave, Bo’s sister and brother in law, were also well developed and felt like family.
If you are looking for a feel-good book, that has lots of romance, smoking hot sex scenes, a lovable yet rambunctious dog, a high school football team and everything that comes with small town life, this is the perfect book for you!
About the Book:
Love can be as sweet as honey, or it can sting like a bee. Bo Smith knows that if you go looking for honey, you get stung, so he has his life just how he wants it. No hassles, no complications, and no heartache. As the handsome high school athletics coach, he would be the pick of the small town he grew up in… if he was into commitment, or dating…or even calling back. But he has sworn off anything resembling a future and his mind isn’t going to change. Then his eyes lock on the new girl in town…She’s beautiful, intelligent, and full of surprises. Just the kind of complication he has been avoiding. Sophia Brown is looking for the sweet simple life. She has it all planned out. Getting used to life alone isn’t easy, but she has her garden, her bees, and her dog Triton to tend to. It’s the fresh start she’s been dreaming of, surrounded by nothing but open fields to stare at all day. Nothing at all…unless you count the high school football team and their distractingly handsome coach, practicing right across the street. But when sparks fly, Bo must choose between the sting of his past or the sweetness of the future. He may just find that honey tastes good on everything.
