Victoria Dannan has knocked it out of the park with her first foray into writing young adult.
Ever Moore is the new kid in school. All she is worried about is finding her classes, not having to eat lunch alone, getting good grades and fitting in. However, strange people, and things seem to follow her wherever she goes.
Ever seems to surround herself with a unique group of classmates. Galalia, who Ever nicknames Gaga, quickly becomes Ever’s best friend. Jean Marre, also known as “hunky odd boy,” is in every one of Ever’s classes except for gym. Mercury Ryder, super intelligent with a mix of surfer dude and class clown tendencies seems to offer Ever advice. And Gabe, with his trumpet, seems to think he can change the world through music.
When some strange advice from Mercury clues Ever in on just how bizarre her first few days of high school have been, and how many coincidences have occurred, she turns to Gaga for help. Gaga completes a reading of tarot cards for Ever and while some things start falling in to place, they also take on deeper meanings that Ever can’t quite grasp yet.
Victoria Danann has done an amazing job of creating a completely unique cast of characters to play out the “game” created by the Earth gods in probably one of the most feared and difficult spots any teenager is forced to face – high school! These characters immediately pulled me into their world and left me wanting more. I cannot wait to see what trials lay ahead for Ever as she navigates a game she does not even realize she is playing.
I give this 5 stars and hope that the next installment arrives quickly to take me back into what may be one of the most peculiar high school experiences of all time!
About the Book:
When it came to the attention of the old ones that their creations, the Earth gods, had been playing games at the expense of humankind for millennia, they put a stop to it. But the rebellious gods were far too addicted to their games to give them up. After several summit meetings, they voted to use their own children as players and locate the playing field in the most treacherous environment in the known universe… high school.
To make it even more interesting, they would strip their children of their memories and withhold the rules of the game.
Like the other players, sixteen year old Ever thinks she’s an ordinary kid until she transfers to R. Caine. After a series of close calls, she realizes she needs to figure out the mysteries behind her burgeoning powers fast; what they are, how to use them.
Because yes, she’s special. But that doesn’t mean she can’t die.
SUITABLE FOR MOST TEEN and YOUNG ADULT READERS.
About Victoria Danann:
New York Times and USA TODAY Bestselling Author.
Her Knights of Black Swan series won BEST PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES THREE YEARS IN A ROW.
Victoria’s paranormal romances come with uniquely fresh perspectives on “imaginary” creatures, characters, and themes. She adds a dash of scifi, a flourish of fantasy, enough humor to make you laugh out loud, and enough steam to make you squirm in your chair. Her heroines are independent femmes with flaws and minds of their own whether they are aliens, witches, demonologists, psychics, past life therapists, or financial analysts from Dallas. Her heroes are hot and hunky, but they also have brains, character, and good manners – usually – whether they be elves, demons, berserkers, werewolves, or vampires.
