~Random Ramblings from a Book Lover~ A Trip to the Book Store

Family vacations are typically pretty laid back for us . . . lots of swimming in the pool, shopping for kitsch at the local stores, and a margarita in the hot tub at night.  We are not “planners” or “on-the-goers” that need somewhere to be all the time.  However, when I saw there was a local bookstore listed as one of the area attractions, I knew I had to check it out . . . and drag my family with me!

Like any good bibliophile, I adore a great library or book store, and The Sandman Book Co. was one of the most unique stores I have ever been in.  First, it is huge.  Genres have their entire room with floor to ceiling shelves filled with books . . .both used and new.  It is also set up with numerous nooks with seating so you can peruse a section and relax while you choose your books.

They have a section slated simply for the classics, most of which were used copies, so they have the old style hard back bindings and thicker style pages.  A section of signed copies as well as antique book collections are also on display and for sale.  I loved this, because I feel like this is what a book store should be!  Beautiful old books to be celebrated and read.

The layout of the store leaves you meandering among the shelves finding new treasures at every twist and turn.  There is an amazing archway made entirely of old books that had been destined for the recycle bin. It’s a pretty amazing sight, and I had to get a few photos which I will share.

The staff were extremely friendly and, if you are lucky, you will even get to meet Kitty Wan Kenobi, the bookstore cat.

I really enjoyed my time in this store . . .just wandering around and seeing what they had.  If you are in the area, I definitely suggest stopping by for an afternoon visit!
