When the Dorian patriarch announces he is retiring from Dorian Publishing, it is up to Noah, Derek to take over the publishing company while Mitch is left to run the day to day duties at Hilltops, their fantasy club.
What Derek never expected was to fall for Emily, an assistant editor in the department he is running. She is not at all the sophisticated, bombshell blonde “type” that Derek typically finds attractive. But from their first awkward interaction, Derek is intrigued with the woman who doesn’t quite fit the mold.
When Emily gave up teaching, she found her niche in the publishing world as an editing assistant. While her immediate supervisor is kind of a witch, she loves her job. She’s happy reading romances rather than living them . . . until Derek throws her world for a loop.
Derek and Emily’s attraction is instantaneous. However, there is much more to a successful relationship than chemistry . . .especially when Derek owns a sex club and Emily is a virgin. With not only boss/employee issues at work standing in their way, Emily’s vindictive sister as well as past relationships for both Derek and Emily threaten to end their newfound feelings for one another before they can fully explore their attraction to one another as well as the possibility of a long term relationship.
Purity was the second book in the Hilltops series, but could easily be read as a standalone. I enjoyed the slow burn of Derek and Emily’s relationship, especially since Derek is quite used to getting what he wants when he wants it both in and out of the bedroom.
Emily’s character had great depth. She is an absolutely brilliant woman, but has self-esteem issues thanks to her nasty sister. She also suffered a traumatic event in her past that has really shaped her future and how she sees men and relationships. I enjoyed watching Derek work to build her up and prove his interests in her.
For those looking for a steamy romance with an intriguing plot, this is a great story. I have enjoyed both Destiny and Purity very much and look forward to Mitch’s story. 4 stars.
