The Spotlight is on Ren Alexander today!
Ren has published numerous books, including her Wild Sparks series as well as a related stand-alone.
I’m really happy to be able to share a bit about Ren and her writing with you today!
What inspires you to write?
Real life. I pull from mine for some things, but rely mostly on the world around me. People inspire me, good and bad.
Is there a genre you feel drawn to write or do you see yourself tackling a variety of genres in the future?
I love dabbling in contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I could possibly delve into new adult in the future, but honestly, I kind of do that now with my adult characters. My characters are based on people I’ve known. I’ve come to realize that adults can be immature. Take a look at social media to find proof. We’re basically just bigger kids with mortgages and car payments.
Can you describe your writing space?
My physical writing space is an old computer desk that I remodeled with new handles, removed the CD slots and desk tray, and painstakingly sanded down and painted an espresso. I’m so proud of it. On the top shelf, I have my cut glass and crystal collection. Hanging on the back in picture frames, I have my prized autographs. Above me is a sparkly chandelier.
Can you tell us a bit about your writing process?
Despite my aforementioned sparkly chandelier, I love writing in the dark with my earbuds playing a specific song or playlist on repeat. It depends if I’m in deep concentration for a scene or chapter.
What is your go to snack when writing?
Brownie Brittle. Chocolate chip or salted caramel are my faves.
Are any of your books or characters based on personal experiences or people in your life?
Absolutely. But I keep the people and experiences to myself so that my readers can enjoy the story and the characters without bias.
Do you have a favorite character or book you have written?
I love most of them for different reasons, but Greg Rodwell is my favorite. My favorite book would be Beckoning the Wild Sparks. So far.
Any hints as to what readers can expect next?
Greg Rodwell isn’t going away. That’s all I’ll say for now.
Tell us about your Street Team and or Reader Group and let us know how interested readers can join.
My reading group is the Finnatics. Anyone who’ve read my books can join the FB group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1690093864608733/
For new to you readers, what book would you suggest they read first?
Chasing the Wild Sparks is the first book in my Wild Sparks series and is Hadley Beckett’s story. However, The Keys to Jericho is a standalone and is Hadley’s brother Jared’s story. You could read either one first, but it may help to know The Keys to Jericho spans the same timeframe as the first three Wild Sparks books.
When not writing your own books, who do you like to read?
I love Tricia Daniels, SC Stephens, Colleen Hoover, Abbi Glines, Rachel Van Dyken, Kirsty Moseley, and so many others.
Share a random fact or two that readers don’t know about you.
I’m right-handed, but can only drive with my left hand.
I’m an eighth cousin of accused murderess, Lizzie Borden.
Favorite Beverage? Diet Pepsi or Diet Dew
What type of music do you listen to? An ecclectic mix, but I particularly love the Black Veil Brides, The Neighbourhood, Shinedown, Pvris, OneRepublic, Young Rising Sons, and The 1975.
Favorite tv show? One of them used to be The King of Queens, so Kevin Can Wait just might be my new fave since Leah Remini is joining the cast. I also love Younger and Married at First Sight.
Do you have any pets? Three cats.
Favorite vacation spot? The Gulf of Mexico. Pass-a-Grille Beach has the best sea shells. They’re huge!
Morning or Night person? Night
Hobbies? I like to sew. Sometimes. My sewing machine and I have a very contentious relationship.
Chasing the Wild Sparks
Throwing down the gauntlet has never been so wild.
Thirty-something paralegal, Hadley Beckett and charismatic, local sportscaster/daredevil, Finn Wilder, disagree about how they should share their lives together. Having been together for three years, Finn increasingly pressures Hadley to move in with him, but being unusually traditional, she wants to be married first, adhering to her moral beliefs, just as he clings to his own religious upbringing when it comes to procreating with her. Each are unwilling to negotiate or concede marriage to the other. Complicating matters is Finn’s seemingly double life, keeping his private life hidden to the point of convincing his viewers—Finnatics—and even his coworkers, he’s single, amid Hadley’s objections. Yet despite their immense disparities, they are determined to make their relationship work, even if it means Hadley has to take their future into her own hands.
Then again, Finn Wilder has his own story to tell.
Daring the Wild Sparks
In the follow-up to “Chasing the Wild Sparks,” Hadley Beckett’s quest for wedded bliss perseveres…
Hadley makes plans concerning her future with her sportscaster/daredevil boyfriend Finn Wilder.
Infamously anti-marriage, Finn promised Hadley he’d consider taking her to the altar if she gives him more time. Diving headfirst and with encouragement from her friends, Hadley concocts her own way to handle Finn if he can’t commit to
Knowing she has an uphill climb ahead of her, Hadley is still determined to succeed, yet is she unwittingly destined to fail?
Igniting the Wild Sparks
In the second follow up to “Chasing the Wild Sparks,” Hadley Beckett comes closer to triumphing over a reluctant Finn Wilder…
What would you do if the love of your life gave you the keys to the kingdom, but won’t let you in?
At the end of her rope, Hadley grabs her intrepid boyfriend Finn Wilder’s world by the…bridge. Finally ready to end the never-ending merry-go-round that is their unknotted life together, she enlists the help of her friends to help boost her own courage. Since Finn is all about walking on the wild side but not down an aisle, Hadley challenges him to the ultimate test that will prove her more daring than the daredevil himself, hoping Finn will take notice and change his mind about making her forever his.
Throwing down the irrevocable gauntlet, will Hadley celebrate supreme victory over his heart or will she accept the cruelest defeat at the very hand she holds?
Enduring the Wild Sparks
Hadley Beckett has a long way to go on the heartbreaking and unforgiving road to redemption. As she continues to recover, her family and friends rally around her, each having their own idea about how to help Hadley heal, as honest or misguided they may be.

Through all the hardship, she’ll find this isn’t the finale for her. It’s a fresh start. On her path to recovery, Hadley encounters the ghost she tried to exorcise from her life. Followed by a shocking heartbreak, she’s thrown into a tailspin and must rise and forge ahead. The Keys to Jericho
Thirty-year-old Jared Beckett has always lived his life single-handedly, unconsciously, and derisively. Adding to his foundation of resentment, when Jared was 16, he had met a girl who made him question everything he believed. When she didn’t return his flirtations, their two-year friendship grew strained, forced, and even painful. Upon graduation, Jared left Annapolis, not looking back, but never moving forward.
Nearly 14 years after their goodbye, Jared has returned to his hometown for the summer, as well to his dark memories, and her. However, with a new light illuminating his world, revelations about his covert friendship are revealed to his family and friends, including himself. As his secretive nature and progressing resentment deteriorate any relationships he has left, in an unexpected move, he reaches out to help her. Is she the only one who can bring down his walls, unlock Jared Beckett’s unconscious heart, and revive him, before it’s too late?
