The Spotlight is on Cherry Christensen today!
Cherry has published three books, the newest released just last month!
I’m really happy to be able to share a bit about Cherry and her writing with you today!
What inspires you to write?
I started writing because my husband was working on a young adult, sci-fi book series. At the time, I was searching for a creative outlet besides scrapbooking, so I followed his lead. Growing up, I was a voracious reader, and a huge fan of romance stories. Therefore, the decision about which genre I wanted to write was an easy one to make! I love sharing my favorite places with readers, as well as God’s word. And I have the bonus perk of being able to live vicariously through my characters!
Is there a genre you feel drawn to write or do you see yourself tackling a variety of genres in the future?
I’m drawn to romances and mysteries. I grew up reading the inspirational romances in the Serenade/Serenata series published by Zondervan Publishing House in my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The stories were clean and entertaining. When I sat down to begin writing my own stories, I knew I wanted to follow in those authors’ footsteps and write sweet romance. I was also a big fan of the Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys mysteries. I’d like to write a romantic mystery, or possibly a cozy mystery, someday.
Can you describe your writing space?
Oh, boy! Right now my desk is cluttered with manuscripts, sticky notes, and pens.
Can you tell us a bit about your writing process?
My writing process differs with each book. When I wrote The Fearful Heart, I was a plotter. I had a notebook full of character descriptions and scene ideas. However, I was a total pantser when I wrote Secret Angel. I used a combination of both methods when I wrote Love’s Full Circle.
Are any of your books or characters based on personal experiences or people in your life?
Yes. Secret Angel is set in Glen Arbor, my favorite town in Michigan. My family and I spent several summers vacationing there, and I have many fond memories of my time spent there with friends and family. Love’s Full Circle takes place in Denver, Colorado, home of my favorite football team. And a lot of the buildings and dorms in The Fearful Heart bear my family’s surnames.
Do you have a favorite character or book you have written?
No. Each character and book is unique in its own way.
Any hints as to what readers can expect next?
I’m busy writing a sequel to Secret Angel. It’s a Valentine’s Day-themed story.
Celebrity Crush? Ian Harding. He played Ezra Fitz on the TV show Pretty Little Liars.
Favorite Beverage? Sweet iced tea.
Sweet or Savory for snacks? Sweet.
What type of music do you listen to? Mostly Christian and soft rock. Some country.
Favorite tv show? A few of my favorite old school TV shows are The Facts of Life, Scooby-Doo, and Murder, She wrote. My picks for modern day shows include Pretty Little Liars and Bunk’d.
Do you have any pets? Two cats. A Russian Blue named Kiska, and a brown tabby named Caden.
Biggest pet peeve? I’m not sure if it’s my biggest pet peeve, but I always cringe when someone pronounces Illinois like Illinoise. I think I’m sensitive to the pronunciation because I was born there.
Favorite vacation spot? Little Glen Lake in Northern Michigan. It’s quiet and beautiful. Plus, the area boasts breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Morning or Night person? I’m definitely a night owl! Mornings? Blech!
Favorite sports team? The Michigan Wolverines and Denver Broncos.
Hobbies? Reading and writing. I wish I had more time for baking, scrapbooking, and traveling. My husband and I at least squeezed in a trip to Scotland for the first time, three years ago. We loved touring the castles!
The Fearful Heart

She’s moved on from their days of best friend-hood and is attending college. And dating one of the most eligible males on campus. Life couldn’t be better. Really. Tristan has devoted himself to Cassidy since they were children together. But no matter what he did, she’s never treated him like more than her best friend. He knows they can have something deeper. If only he can find the key to unlocking her fearful heart.

Preparing for the church candlelight Christmas Eve service and running the family store, Hannah continues to bump into Jasper—and the prying eyes of the locals who suspect there’s more going on than business as usual.
Blessings and suspicions abound when an anonymous donor pays to have the church furnace repaired, and other locals suddenly find solutions to their problems. Is it coincidental, or the work of a secret angel?

About Cherry Christensen
Cherry hails from the Great Lakes state of Michigan, where she lives with her husband and two adorably mischievous cats. She does most of her writing at night because she is not a morning person, and wholeheartedly agrees with the anonymous saying, “I could be a morning person, if morning happened around noon.”
In addition to writing, Cherry has traveled overseas, exploring castles in Scotland, soaking in the sights of London, and gazing at the beautiful English countryside out a train car window. Closer to home, she’s gone dolphin watching and parasailing in Florida.
Cherry’s husband is also an author, but he doesn’t share her love of football. Her favorite teams are the Michigan Wolverines and Denver Broncos. Go Blue! Mile High Salute! So, what’s better than watching football? Eating chocolate chip cookie dough during a game!
