~Book Review~ “Wicked Lies” by L.A. Cotton

My Review:

Kyle Stone has the world at his feet.  He has everything he wants in life . . . money, popularity, friends, football and Laurie.  He always has a joke to share and is the life of the party. He’s also got a secret that is tearing him apart and could change everything if it comes out.

Laurie Davison knows all about secrets.  While she seems to have it all, including Kyle, she feels like she is simply going through the motions of life.  Her parents are absent most of the time and when they are present continually push her to make decisions that make them happy and not her regarding who she dates and what college she attends.  She loves Kyle, but she can also tell something is up with him. And those secrets are driving a wedge between them and causing her to trust her choices in following him to USC for college or going where her parents want.

Kyle’s struggling to keep it together and protect those he loves, but by pushing them away it’s causing heartbreak he can’t handle.  When the truth finally comes up will it be enough to ruin Kyle Stone or will those that know and love him best rally around him as he’s done for them.

Wicked Lies had so many plot twists and turns it kept me enthralled and sucked me right back into highschool.  The Stone-Princes have more family drama than you can imagine and Kyle is put through the ringer in this book! Kyle and Laurie are a sweet match, but their relationship is definitely put to the test by not only the outside world but by the secrets and worries they keep from one another.

Along with Kyle’s struggles, we also get Laurie’s backstory which really gives incredible depth to her character!  There were a few scenes where she finally takes control of her life that made me want to stand up and cheer for her.  It was fun to watch her really come into her own as a young woman rather than a teenage girl.

For fans of the series, the author also gives us plenty of Maverick and Lo while still keeping the main story focussed on Kyle and Laurie.  Without giving things away, I have to say that I have a whole new respect for Mamma P – Rebecca Prince after this book. She totally rocks. I’m also looking forward to see how the newest addition to Wicked Bay High fares next school year.

Wicked Lies has plenty of heat, lots of angst, unbelievable drama and a crazy look into young adult  life in Wicked Bay. 5 stars

To the outside world, seventeen-year-old Kyle Stone has it all. A future playing the sport he loves, money and status, and his forever girl by his side. But Kyle’s good at pretending; hiding what he doesn’t want others to see. Because Kyle has secrets, the kind that can change everything.Pretty, popular, and dating one of Wicked Bay High’s rising football stars, Laurie Davison is living the life most girls only dream about. But behind closed doors, she feels like a fake. Keeping up appearances is exhausting, and the one person she should be able to turn to is the person pushing her away.

They say love conquers all, but lies destroy. And when the truth comes out, hearts don’t only get hurt.

They get ruined.

Note: Wicked Lies can be read as a standalone but will be better enjoyed when read in series order

Edgy. Angsty. Addictive Romance.

Author of mature young adult and new adult novels, L A is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.
Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find L A immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.
