The 2nd annual Authors in the Steel City will be coming back to Pittsburgh, PA September 6 & 7 2019. Since Pittsburgh is my home town, I wanted to spotlight some of the amazing authors coming into this amazing city as part of the event.
Today I am spotlighting Victoria Monroe. Victoria writes steamy contemporary romance.
Victoria can’t wait to attend the AITSC event this September because:
AITSC is held in a place I called home for thirteen years, and it was a fabulous event last year—and my very first signing! Plus, Cheri Marie (the event’s host) is a wonderful person!
What would you like your readers to know about you?
My kids, especially my daughter, are my biggest cheerleaders for my writing. I’m almost always listening to music. I love being outside. I highly dislike social media…lol.
What inspires you to write?
Reading, music, art… all of these things offer inspiration. However, nothing is more inspiring to me than being outside. I see romance in nature, I guess.
Is there a genre you feel drawn to write or do you see yourself tackling a variety of genres in the future?
At this point, Romance is where I live and I can’t imagine straying. I love human emotion and the way people connect. I suppose that’s why the characters in my stories are also friends and family. I love all of those dynamics.
Can you describe your writing space?
My official space is an area in my kitchen. It’s an old singer sewing machine converted into a desk with an old barn beam for a desk surface. My laptop, a gooseneck lamp, a wooden ampersand, and a candle on top of a vintage book complete the space. But… I write anywhere and everywhere, I keep a notebook with me and use the notes feature in my phone.
Can you tell us a bit about your writing process?
My writing process is really an anti-process! Honestly, I’m not disciplined to a structure. I write sporadically and when my imagination sparks ideas. Then I take time as I can and weave it all together.
What is your go to snack when writing?
I usually have almonds or pretzels on my desk if I’m feeling munchie.
Are any of your books or characters based on personal experiences or people in your life?
Yes and yes! There’s part of me in every character, I think. They’re also some aspects of my characters influenced by people in my life. Some occurrences are based on, or reflect parts of my own experiences.
Do you have a favorite character or book you have written?
This is tough. My first book—is my FIRST book—it’s special in a way I can’t explain. All of that started with the male character I thought of—Gage. My imagination wouldn’t rest and he was always at the center of it. That being said, Killian is a character who evolves and develops in a way I never imagined at the beginning of this journey. He was simply a forgettable secondary character who served a purpose. But he stuck. And he grew. And before I knew it, he captured my heart and had his own book. There’s more…Ashe changed and developed quite a lot as well—and his story is one that still brings tears to my eyes. He seems shallow and egocentric at first. He’s a womanizer and stays detached… but if you look closer, there’s a fierce love and dedication to his family and friends which is present from the beginning of the first book. That grows and by the end of Falling Forever, Ashe Bennett owns my heart.
In short—Killian is a character to watch, and Falling Forever is story that delivers and an ending readers can’t expect!
Any hints as to what readers can expect next?
I have two anthology stories coming out this year and a new full length, stand alone novel! I love this new story and the H/h are sure to entertain!
For new to you readers, what book would you suggest they read first?
The Forever Series is a stand alone series, but it’s best to start at the beginning: HOLDING ON FOREVER.
Tell us about your Street Team and or Reader Group and let us know how interested readers can join.
I have a readers group—Rings, Rice, Rattles & Romance—it’s very small. I don’t have a street team. I’d love for readers who discover my stories to want to join my group to interact and help spread the word about the stories and characters I love so much!

When not writing your own books, who do you like to read?
I love Bella Andre and M. Leighton. But recently I dedicate most of my reading to indie authors. There’s a magic in their work that makes me proud to read every word and in some cases to call them friends.
Share a random fact or two that readers don’t know about you.

Victoria is also participating in the AITSC charity anthology Hearts of Steel: A Pittsburgh Anthology releasing on August 13, 2019.
Victoria loves reading great romance! She writes steamy contemporary romance and loves sharing the stories she has written with readers! There’s nothing like knowing that her characters have nestled their way into someone’s heart, just like they’re in hers. She’s a day dreamer, star gazer, and loves watching the moon come and go. Victoria loves being an author, but her favorite job title is—mom!
