~Book Review~ “The Bachelor on the Shelf” by Jana Aston

My Review:

In town to collect his inheritance, his Uncle Joe’s dog named Rudy, professional baseball player Carter Sheppard knows exactly how to clean up his image, and that’s a fake engagement to the sassy town librarian, Lexi Foster.  But, just maybe, fake isn’t really what Carter has in mind . . .

Lexi doesn’t plan on giving up custody of Rudy to someone who isn’t worthy, so when Carter says he’ll give her custody if she helps him clean up his image by fake dating him, she’s all in.  But, sometimes it doesn’t feel so fake . . . especially when Carter isn’t worried about too many photo ops, and is instead worried about making Lexi happy.

Carter and Lexi were super cute together . . . and I love that it is Rudy the dog who is the glue that brings them together.  Carter is so much more than the “player” that Lexi thinks he is, due to his reputation, and he works hard to prove that to her even when she tries her best to not see it.  I also loved how Lexi wasn’t just the “good girl” Carter thought she was either.

The Bachelor on the Shelf was a lot of fun and Jana Aston killed it with the (not so) fake engagement trope.  It was a great ending to books 4-6 of the Reindeer Falls series which followed the Sheppard brothers and a very quirky group of best friends destined to be sister in laws.  4 stars!

My name is Carter Sheppard and I actually like Christmas and my Christmas-themed hometown of Reindeer Falls. In fact, when I learn I have to return home in order to collect an inheritance—my uncle’s dog—it puts life into perspective for me.

Sure, playing professional baseball is great. But it won’t last forever and every player needs a long-term game plan.

And I just found mine. Wrapped up in the feisty, bespectacled package of the town librarian.

Unfortunately, she thinks I’m a player in all aspects of the word, but I’ve got a plan to win her over. Starting with a fake engagement…
