My Review:
Welcome back to the world of the Midnight Dynasty – where the Constantine and Morelli families rule. King of Spades, part of the Wonderland Trilogy, tells the story of Lyriope Bailey, Bryant Morelli’s illegitimate child, and Nick Hudson, a powerful player in the underworld in his own right.
All Lyriope ever wanted was to be wanted. But, when she finds there is a hit out on her life, she is forced to take Nick’s protection . . . even if the price is higher than she is willing to pay. But what are Nick’s real intentions with Lyriope?
Ahhhh – I am loving these characters so far. Nick Hudson is truly an enigma. Where he comes from, where he is going, how he portrays himself to the world . . . who is the real Nick? He really is kind of like the Mad Hatter controlling everything in the world he has created. And, Lyriope has definitely stepped through the looking glass into a world she never could have imagined. She is sassy and bold, yet innocent at the same time. It’s an intoxicating mix as a reader watching her take her first steps into the dark world of the Midnight Dynasty and wondering if she will claim her place or if the world will eat her alive!
King of spades ends on a cliffhanger, and I really want more of this story now. It’s been thrilling and unexpected so far and I am excited to see what is in store for these characters next. 4.5 stars!
